English Academic Foundation Course

English Academic Foundation Course provides you with:
The English language skills to help you enter and participate in university programmes taught in English in the Czech Republic and elsewhere.
Classes of English for Academic Purposes, Academic Skills Development and an introduction to European culture.
Preparation for an internationally recognised English language exam.
An international team of experienced teachers.
► COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the English Academic Foundation course you will have:
- gained techniques for delivering presentations and taking part in discussions
- learnt strategies for identifying key points in lectures and effective note taking
- become familiar with the structure of and language used in a range of academic texts,
and had practice producing them
- an understanding of your strengths and areas for development in English

- Secondary school leaving certificate
- English proficiency level 4,5 IELTS (recommended)
► COURSE CONTENT
The programme concentrates on the language, academic and intercultural skills you will need to succeed in a European higher education environment in English. In the language domain, the course will give you extensive practice in the areas tested in university entrance as well as internationally recognised exams, i.e. reading, listening, writing and speaking.
In the academic skills area, you will practice e.g. identifying relevant sources, interpreting and analysing them; identifying problems and proposing solutions based on appropriate knowledge; working in a team; and planning effectively to meet deadlines. Within the intercultural skills domain, you will broaden your knowledge of European culture and thus improve the ability to understand different cultural contexts; and you will practise your ability to adapt to different cultural settings.
